Cap Barbell 40-Pound Dumbbell Set Review
By admin on Jun 23, 2010 with Comments 0
The Cap set is an adjustable dumbbell set that includes 2 handles and 8 weight plates totaling 40 lbs in the form of four 2.5 lbs and 4 5 lbs plates respectively. The set comes equipped with four collars threaded for stability and a secure fit, and a carrying case so that an avid body builder can keep the home gym organized or move the set anywhere he or she goes for workouts on the go.
Although simple, the dumbbells of the Cap set, each of which measures 20 x 9 x 8 inches (length x width x height), feature ergonomic comfort grips and rubber-trimmed collars for a secure grip. The cast iron plates too are certain to last for years thanks to a semi-gloss finish that makes them rust and maintenance-free.

Simple to Use and Value for Money
Contrary to the idea that washers and knobs would make changing weights a tiresome task, more than one review found that the rubber washers ensure swift and secure positioning of the individual weight plates. Weight plates are screwed in tightly and the weights do not slip around at all when in use. If anything, users appreciated the longer rest times that came with the 30 seconds needed to spin the washers off and on to change the weights.
Another aspect of the Cap dumbbells that users found appealing was the value for money they offer. The Cap set is one of the most affordable dumbbells sets available, and with very simple to no set up required. One user also thought that the accompanying plastic carrying case was sufficiently durable to withstand the vagaries of travel. The case also provided a convenient storage option for the dumbbells when they were not in use.
Comfortable Grip and Expandable
The size of the handles was also praised, as they fit comfortably in to a user's hand when in use. There was no need to grip it extremely tightly, nor did users struggle with too-wide handles. The diamond-patterned chrome finish also ensured the handles didn't become slippery in the later stages of a workout.
One feature of the Cap set that users especially liked was its expandability. A user can opt to purchase extra, individual weights once he or she has "grown out" of the 40 lbs provided with the set.
Handles Can Feel Too Long, Off-Putting Odor
The length of the handles came in for some criticism in one review, which felt that they would impede the movement of exercises that involved simpler hex dumbbells. Others felt that having to remove the washers and knobs to change weight plates was a slightly troublesome step. The most frequently cited issue for the Cap dumbbell set was how the rust-prevention treatment used on the dumbbells made them smell variously like grease or gasoline.
