Ironmaster 75 lb Quick Lock Adjustable Dumbbell System Review

Made from welded steel and chrome plated handles with knurled grips, the Ironmaster dumbbell system promises super sturdy construction. It also has a design that takes up an incredibly small amount of storage space of less than 2 square feet.

Not only is the Ironmaster a compact piece of efficient exercise equipment, the Quick-Lock design ensures that the exerciser will only need mere seconds to adjust the dumbbells in 2.5 lbs increments. The user can start with an easy 5 lbs for toning and work his or her way up to 75 lbs to build more strength and bulk.

The Quick-Lock handle design allows one to add and remove weight plates with a partial turn of the locking screws. Each dumbbell, measuring 14.5 x 6.5 x 6.5 inches (width x height x length) and weighing up to 75 lbs each, takes the place of 30 separate dumbbell sets. Storage is a no-brainer thanks to the accompanying stand, which is compact as well and has rubber feet to keep it level and stable.

Sturdy Construction and Tightly Seated Weight Plates

Many users have praised the construction of the Ironmaster dumbbells. Not only are they good for easy exercises, the weights are locked so securely in the handles that they work perfectly well for full-body swings as well. The weight plates don't rattle or slide around no matter what the exertion. One review was so happy about the locking mechanism that he pronounced it the safest and most secure set of adjustable dumbbells he'd ever used, and there is totally no fear of weights detaching from the base when in use.

In addition to the tightly secured weight plates, another review reported that the dumbbells' well-proportioned handles made workouts, whether one or two handed, comfortable. The square shape of the plates initially appears odd, but lend themselves well to asymmetrical weight loading, making it easy and stable. Users cited the wide, flat permanent collars and flat-headed Quick-Lock pins as features that allowed the dumbbells to be used in horizontal or vertical positions and a variety of grips, and the dumbbells wouldn't roll away either.

Takes Storage Concerns into Account

The compact size of the dumbbells and accompanying stand mean that they take up a minimum of space when stored, and users felt the appearance added to the aesthetic appeal of the room in which they were stored.

Users also liked the versatility of the dumbbell set, which facilitates the addition of an extra set of separately purchased weight plates. Additionally, another review was enthusiastic about how the weight plates themselves could be used with other weight training equipment from Ironmaster.

Weight Plates Take a While to Change

Exercisers for whom time is a concern found the duration taken to change weight plates on an Ironmaster dumbbell excessively lengthy, although they take a shorter time to change compared to other dumbbells in the same category. The lack of a locking mechanism also caused worry in one review, although there have been no reports of weight plates falling out while the dumbbell is in use.
