Barbells

Barbells are exercise equipment that is used in weight training, powerlifting and weightlifting. A barbell consists of a metal bar, a set or several sets of weight plates and a set of collars. Barbells generally range in length from four feet to seven feet. The bar is usually around an inch in diameter and has a crosshatch design pattern that helps the lifter get a good grip before lifting.

The plates or disc weights are slid onto the outer ends of the bar to obtain whatever weight the lifter desires. The weights are secured with collars that prevent them from sliding off during the lifting.

Types of Barbells

An Olympic or a weightlifting barbell has a bar on which the sleeves rotate. This allows the discs to spin on their own axis so that the rotational inertia effect is put on the person lifting and enables the lifter to descend under the bar easily.

Whether you are looking to tone up or to build huge arm muscles, you will need a barbell to get the job done. There are many types of barbells available including professional-style barbells, solid steel barbells, chrome barbells, urethane coated barbells, rubber coated barbells, olympic barbells, uni-lock barbells, hex barbells and more.
