Grippers are devices that are used to improve the strength in your hands and forearms by training your grip. A typical gripper is made with two handles and a heavy coil spring. The handles are made of plastic or metal and are attached to each end of the spring.

Types of Grippers

Sports grippers are the most common kind of gripper and they are found at nearly every sporting goods store. The sports gripper provides a resistance of between 25 and 40 pounds and can be used by nearly everyone who has an average crushing grip.

Strength training grippers offer you much more resistance than do sports grippers, with anywhere from 60 to 400 pounds of force. This type of gripper is not so common and is a bit harder to find in the average sporting goods store. The average person has a hard time to close these grippers.
